Enrol Now for Point Blank Summer School 2018. Dates Available in July & August

Point Blank Summer Schools are back, offering the perfect chance for younger students to get into a myriad of disciplines within music over a short period at affordable rates. If you’re aged between 11 and 19, or are a relative of a budding young producer / DJ / radio presenter / singer of that age, we might have just the course you’ve been looking for. Check out the full range of summer classes here.

The barriers to entry for making music have never been easier to overcome than they are today, but we know that the first step is often the hardest. If you’re not sure what kind of avenue you’d like to go down, or you don’t have any of the necessary equipment to try something out – you might never get started at all. This is why we offer summer school classes to young people. Our instructors are all accomplished artists in their own right and have worked with the likes of NWA, Warren G, Bjork, Kevin Saunderson, Doves and Stevie Wonder. Plus, our studios are kitted out with the latest, state-of-the-art gear.

With our Music Production summer classes, each student receives their own workstation fitted with the latest versions of hardware and software by industry leaders such as Ableton and Native Instruments

Our Pioneer DJ-supported DJ Suite contains the very best in modern DJ gear, so DJ Summer School students can learn in a high-end club environment.

With our Radio summer class, students can learn the key tenets of broadcasting in one of the most fluid industries in the world. PB alumni such as Monki and Madam X have gone on to regular shows with stations like Radio 1, 1 Extra and Rinse FM.

Having trained singers like Leona Lewis and with instructors including Grammy-Award winner Phil Ramocon, our Singing classes are world renowned.

These four courses cater for all tastes in the music industry, and these Summer School courses offer fantastic value. If you have any questions or just want to get in touch, please call +44 20 7729 4884 or click here.

The Voice and The X Factor Auditions at Point Blank in London

Over the past few weeks, we’ve welcomed not one but two of the country’s most prestigious singing competitions, not to mention most popular programmes on television, to audition our students for next year’s editions of each. We have a special association with The X Factor in particular, given that Leona Lewis, winner of the third series of The X Factor, studied with us earlier in her career. We offer several variations of tuition focused on singing at PB London, tailored to match everyone’s individual needs. Find out more here.

PB Alumnus Leona Lewis’ Picture at Orsman Road Led Students to the X Factor Audition Room

The X Factor is entering it’s fifteenth year, making it by far the longest-running television series of its kind in the UK. The show has produced a string of uber-successful stars since it’s inception, including Alexandra Burke, Matt Cardle, Little Mix, JLS, One Direction and of course our own Leona Lewis. One Point Blank alumnus has already gone the distance, and why not another? Fun fact: one of the writers of The X Factor’s theme tune is a former expert instructor at Point Blank. Jos Jorgenson taught music composition and wrote Paloma Faith’s ‘Upside Down’ with his songwriting partner Andy Love.

The Voice’s history is slightly shorter than that of The X Factor in the UK, starting as it did in 2012, two years after the original show aired in the Netherlands. With a slightly different focus, successful contestants are paired up with one of the show’s four coaches, which inevitably are made up of some of the most iconic names in the industry, including the likes of will.i.am, Tom Jones, Kylie Minogue, Rita Ora and Olly Murs. They can’t quite compare with Phil Ramocon and Linton Bennett, but it’s not bad.

These are just a couple of examples of the recent opportunities we’ve helped lay on for our students, and more are always on the way. Every Sunday we publish the best of what our network of contacts has passed our way on our Opportunities blog. Also, there are many ways to the top, and we can help you achieve your goals in each of our schools: in London, Mumbai, Ibiza, Los Angeles and Online.

Point Blank Presents Phil’s Open Mic Night – Wed 8th November

Point Blank will be continuing our fortnightly Point Blank Open Mic Nights, every other Wednesday, at The Stag’s Head pub opposite our Orsman Road studios in November. If you would like to perform all you need to do is turn up – the pub has a back-line setup and there will be a sound engineer present at the event to ensure you’re sounding your best! This is a great opportunity to showcase the skills you have learnt with us, or for production students to network with some artists to potentially collaborate with. This is an open event and as such anyone is welcome to come down whether a student at Point Blank or not, so why not bring your friends and family down for a night of live music! You can click attending and share the event here. Food is available at the pub so feel free to come straight from work or college and grab a pre-show bite.

Our host for the evening will be PB instructor and open mic night organiser Phil Ramocon, an Ivor Novello Award and a Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter who’s worked with a range of high profile artists from Jamelia right through to reggae legends Bob Marley and Jimmy Cliff. He co-wrote ‘Buffalo Stance’ with Neneh Cherry for which he won an Ivor Novello award and a Grammy. ‘Buffalo Stance’ has also recently been featured in Grand Theft Auto. Phil is involved in both remix and production work and is a hugely experienced instructor, ready to teach you all the skills you need to become an accomplished singer and songwriter. Don’t forget to check out our singing and songwriting courses.

The Stag’s Head, our location, is a Grade II listed, Neo-Georgian pub designed by famous inter-war architect A E Sewell for Truman’s Brewery. Having stood at 55 Orsman Road since 1856, the pub would have originally had strong links to the nearby Grand Union Canal, with its clientele mainly being workers from the local factories and wharves. Sewell reconstructed the pub in 1936 and since then it has remained largely unchanged, retaining the original bar backs, counters, panelling, fireplaces, mirrors and tilework. This pub is a true, original fixture of Orsman Road situated almost directly opposite our studios. This and the intimate space set up for live music makes it the perfect place for us to host this event. See you there!

Leona Lewis, Aluna Francis and Izzy Bizu are just a few of the former Point Blank students who have gone on to achieve global success and industry recognition. If you think you have what it takes to join their ranks, why not take a look at our singing and songwriting courses. You can find out more by heading to the course page or contacting a course advisor. You can also give us a call on 0207 729 4884. If you’re calling from outside of the UK, call +44 20 7729 4884, and if you’re in the USA call 323 282 7660.
