This time, we dive into the world of Garage, selecting ten must-have tracks for your collection – no mean feat. Feeling inspired? On our BA (Hons) Music Production & Sound Engineering Degree we can equip you with the knowledge you need to make your own mark on the electronic music scene. Now, roll on our ten essential Garage bangers…

Ghost – The Club

A release from imprint Ghost Recordings. Label head and legendary producer/DJ El-B is considered by many to be one of the early pioneers of Dubstep.

Roy Davis Jr ft. Peven Everett – Gabriel

A soulful classic, Roy Davis Jr & Peven Everett’s 1997 banger has got to be one of the most memorable garage tunes ever made. The ultimate set-closer!

Scott Garcia ft. MC Styles – A London Thing

Coming out on Underground Connection in 1997, Scott Garcia’s ‘A London Thing’ epitomizes the UK Garage scene and the city in which it was born.

Master Stepz – Melody

An anthem in underground garage raves, Master Stepz ‘Melody’ first got a release on Outlaw Records in 1998.

Dem 2 – Destiny

Dem 2’s ‘Destiny’, released in ’97 on Locked On,  defines two-step. This cut was one of the earlier garage tracks to feature the use of the pitched and chopped vocal samples that became synonymous with the genre.

187 Lockdown – Gunman

Sampling Ennio Morricone’s iconic chimes from spaghetti western For A Few Dollars More, Speed Garage banger ‘Lockdown’ hit #16 on the UK Singles Chart.

Some Treat – Lost In Vegas

A subby gem. Lost In Vegas’ memorable sample comes from DNA’s flip of Suzanne Vega’s ‘Tom’s Diner’.

Active Minds – Hobson’s Choice

A much darker cut, ‘Hobson’s Choice’ was originally limited to just 500 copies. A classic UK urban banger, Active Minds self-released the record in 1998. This tune lit up underground garage raves, with its instantly recognisable strings and chopped/pitched vocal samples.

Richie Dan – Call It Fate

Featuring the unmistakeable vocals of K Warren, Richie Dan’s ‘Call It Fate’ is a seminal Garage classic. Another soulful cut that no Garage compilation would be complete without!
